When I'm not at my desk in the office you can usually find me wandering the streets of Edinburgh - the extremely photogenic capital of Scotland - with my camera in hand and snapping away. I originally became interested in photography in the summer of 2004 when I bought my first 'proper' camera to document my travels around Europe. What started off as a hobby quickly escalated into an obsession, but I haven't looked back. A year later I upgraded to a DSLR and now find my passion and enthusiasm for photography growing each day.
I'd like to think of my choice of subject matter as being somewhat eclectic: I simply shoot whatever interests me. My favourite subjects include portraiture, landscapes, infra red, long exposure night scenes and, more recently, urban and street scenes. Marcel Proust once said "The real voyage of discovery consists not in seeking new landscapes but in having new eyes" and this is something which I try to apply to my photography - to help me find the 'extra' in the ordinary.
The site is an evolution of my original blog which was (and still is) hosted on Blogger. That site began life on 12 February 2005 and was designed to encourage me to improve my photography by shooting as often as possible. The Daily Exposure is now based on a slightly modified version of the The World in 35mm template and I'm trying to focus more on quality rather than quantity. I always appreciate any comments on my images (good or bad) so please feel free to let me know what you think - it's also incredibly useful to see my shots from another perspective. I've also got another blog where I concentrate on writing about photography, so please check it out here
